In 1998, Tinta invisible put into action an innovative initiative, a subscription to a periodic editioning project, that lasted for five years. For the subscribers it represented a declaration of confidence in the project, accepting the adventure of not knowing beforehand the works that would appear. The aim was to promote artistic production of original prints and to offer the experience of being involved in the editorial project and in collecting right from the beginning of the project. The main idea behind this initiative was to create and deliver three unique prints for each year that the subscription lasted.
This collection is eclectic and diverse, and the norm that identifies it is the format of the paper, of 28 x 38 cm and the number of 75 signed copies. Each print is fruit of the work and dedication of the authors who had been invited to participate in this special project. The artists were asked to explore their own style and expression with total freedom and without any technical restraints. The aim was to create a single piece that was true to their language, and, why not, also consistent with the collection being generated.
The result of this initiative is a heterogenous and fascinating set. The body of the collection exhibits a variety of graphic works, each with its own history and meaning. The techniques used in the production of the prints were intaglio, with the odd exception that incorporated additional elements from other graphic disciplines that artists wanted to explore and were necessary to complete the piece. The unconditional commitment of the workshop to this editioning project made it possible for the artists to experiment and delve deeper into the different technical possibilities available for their creations, while at the same time the workshop’s involvement provided the members of Tinta Invisible with the opportunity to grow within the professional project they had in hand.
It is notable that this focus on creative freedom and accompanying the artist by the members of Tinta Invisible was a veritable statement of intent.
They adventured with authors who for them were references and who demonstrated the diversity and excellence of calcographic printmaking as a means of artistic expression. Each print becomes a window on the imagination and expresses the solvency of the artists, offering the subscribers a unique and enriching experience within the world of art.
Looking at the success of the collection from the perspective of these past years, that commitment to artistic skills and to art anticipated the seeds of the editions that would come later.
