Tinta Invisible editions PRESENTS ON PAPER, its annual contest of graphic work to promote the art of engraving as well as the connection between engravers from all over the world.

1.OBJECTIVE

The call was born in 2015 by the artist and engraver Nuria Melero. Currently, it is a collaboration between the artist and the team of Tinta invisible editions Ricard Ibernon, Martí Guinovart and Mercis Rossetti. The objective is the promotion and support of contemporary artists and creators specialized in engraving techniques as well as the diffusion of their work.

In order to achieve this purpose, the competition is held annually and a selection of between 10 and 15 finalists will be made and a prize of 1000 € (including taxes) will be awarded to the winning artist. An exhibition of the finalists will be held at Tinta Invisible's exhibition space and a catalogue will be published.

2.PARTICIPANTS

All artists over 18 years of age of any origin and nationality can participate in this call for entries. The contest is aimed at artists who work in the discipline of visual arts and who use any of the disciplines of engraving as a working method. The works must be original, they cannot have been previously exhibited publicly or have won any other contest. The participation in this contest supposes the total acceptance of these rules and the conformity with the decision of the jury. The winner of the previous edition will not be allowed to participate.

3.TOPIC

There will be no specific topic.

4. TECHNIQUES

Each artist may submit a single work with a maximum size of 50 x 70 cm or that the sum of the two sides does not exceed 120 cm. The works must necessarily be executed with any of the systems and techniques of the graphic arts, including digital and electrographic procedures considered by the artist. The following techniques will be accepted: silkscreen, lithography, etching or indirect techniques, gouge or direct techniques, additive techniques, monotype, electro-etching, woodcut, photoengraving. Digital reproduction techniques such as digital giclée printing will also be accepted. Digital processes in the creation of the matrix will be accepted.

The work must be signed and numbered. The total edition cannot exceed 50 copies. The print must have been made within the last two years.

5. HOW TO APLLY

For the viewing and possible selection of the works by the jury, participants must register on the website: https://gravat.com/ca/on-paper-contest between October 21 and December 18, and must fill out the data form consisting of:

-Name, surname and ID card number

-Technical file of the work

-Conceptual and technical description of the work

-Statement

-Curriculum

-Image of the work with a resolution of 300 dpi in JPG, PNG or JPEG format and a minimum size of 2 MB and a maximum of 5 MB, as specified on the website, and suitable for reproduction in catalogs.

-Web page or social networks

-Contact information

-Proof of payment of the participation fee.

6. REGISTRATION FEE

The registration fee for participation is 30,00 € for administration costs, to be paid by Paypal or credit or debit card through the web form. Registrations will not be considered if the corresponding fee has not been paid by the established date.

7. JURY

The jury of this edition will be formed by:

-Nuria Melero, engraving artist and main organizer and creator of ON PAPER until 2023.

-Jordi Garrido, independent curator, art critic and regular contributor to media such as A*Desk, Barcelona Metròpolis, El Temps de les Arts or Bonart.

-Jo Milne, artist, researcher, doctor and professor at EINA and Belles Arts. Her work is part of private and public collections.

-Jordi Alcaraz, artist, engraver and editor. His work has been exhibited internationally. He has participated in Art Basel, Art Cologne, Art Chicago, ARCO, Miami Basel, etc.

-Martí Guinovart, master engraver, founding partner of Tinta Invisible edicions, and member of the board of the Private Foundation Espai Guinovart in Agramunt.

- Ricard Ibernon, founding partner of Tinta Invisible edicions, vice-president of Amics de les Arts, group that promotes the Museu de Pintura de Sant Pol de Mar.

-Mercis Rossetti, artist and curator. Partner and editor of Tinta Invisible since 2024. Her work has been exhibited in different photography festivals such as LA NUU or VILAPENSA and has been exhibited in several public and private institutions.

The jury’s decision will be unappealable and the jury may declare the contest deserted.

8. SELECTION OF THE FINALIST WORKS, EXHIBITION AND CATALOGUE

From among the works received, the jury will make a selection of between 10 and 15, which will be exhibited in the Tinta Invisible exhibition hall between March 13 and April 15, 2025, and from which a catalogue will be published.

Finally, the jury will choose the winning work from among the finalists.

9. SHIPPING AND VIEWING OF SELECTED WORKS

On January 16 the selected artists will be communicated by e-mail or telephone and the list will be published on social networks. Tinta Invisible will contact the finalist artists so that the works will be presented to the contest before March 5th.

The selected works must be delivered between the 20 of January and the 10 of March, framed with wood or similar and the frame cannot exceed 2 cm. The work will be protected with methacrylate or similar, never with glass or without protection. The framed work cannot be larger than 72 x 52 cm. Works covered only with methacrylate held with clamps or metal clips will not be accepted. Tinta Invisible is not responsible for the shipping and return costs -which will always be paid by each artist- as well as for any possible damage that may occur during the transfer of the works. The packaging, must be reusable for their return, and the insurance (if applicable), will also be at the expense and risk of the participants.

The works must be presented at Carrer del Lleó no. 6, baixos, 08001, Barcelona, Spain, during the following hours: from Monday to Sunday from 9 am to 2 pm and from 3 pm to 6 pm, and on Sundays from 9 am to 3 pm. Works that do not meet the conditions described in the contest rules will not be accepted.

10. AWARDS

The winning work is awarded with 1000 €, will become the property of Tinta Invisible editions and will become part of its collection.

The winner of the first prize will make a solo exhibition at Tinta Invisible, within a maximum period of one year from the date of the award.

The finalists will appear in the catalogue of next year’s edition and will receive 3 copies of the catalogue.

11. RETURNS OF THE WORKS

The non-winning works must be collected from Monday to Sunday, from 9 am to 2 pm and from 3 pm to 6 pm, and on Sundays from 9 am to 3 pm between April 15 and May 15, 2025. If the collection is carried out by a transport company, the day and time of collection must be specified. All the works that have not been removed before May 15th will remain at the free disposal of Tinta Invisible, without this implying that they will become part of its collection.

12. RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS

All participants will concede the rights of reproduction, printing, information for the edition of catalogs, advertising, information on social networks or web pages, etc., always within the context of the contest.

The participating artists guarantee that they are the owners of the material they present to the contest, that they own the totality of the intellectual property and that these works have not been presented or awarded in any other contest, and that the works awarded in this contest cannot be subsequently presented to any other contest where the author’s rights are in conflict. The author declares that he/she has obtained and has the necessary authorization from the persons, places and brands that may appear in each work, and is solely responsible for any claim that may be filed against the organization for this reason.

The works that are not awarded prizes must be collected at Tinta Invisible during the established dates. The works that are not collected during these dates will remain at the free disposal of the organization. The presentation of the works to the contest supposes the acceptance and conformity of the conditions.
