Josep Maria Mestres Quadreny, Alfons Borrell
2012
The project takes its title from one of Josep Maria Mestres Quadreny's electroacoustic pieces, Tráfico boreal.
The title evokes Brossa's posthumous poem "Sumari Astral".
Mestres Quadreny uses a computer program for automatic sound generation. The traffic of the spectators through the space and the cadence of their movements transform the sound field with the opening or closing of the sound sequences. The enclosed compact disc is the fixation of this eternal becoming eraclià, the sound field resulting from the spontaneous generation of circulatory flow for an hour, like a photograph that can only be captured by the ear.
The printed graphic image is the screenshot of the program.

In the pieces included in this work, Alfons Borrell combines different techniques such as drawing with graphite, collage with carborundum and etching. The whole set is presented in a cardboard folder, which simulates an industrial type of packaging in which the title of the project, Tráfico boreal, is highlighted by a green band.
The project was conceived by Manuel Guerrero Brullet as a tribute to the poet Joan Brossa, friend and accomplice of Josep Maria Mestres Quadreny and Alfons Borrell. And, as a curiosity, the size of the folder corresponds exactly to the size of Alfons Borrell's arm: 52.5 cm of friendly extremity.
