From October 10th to 12th at the MACBA Chapel
ArtsLibris, the International Fair of Artist’s Books, Photobooks and Self-Publishing, celebrates 10 years since its first edition at ARCOmadrid. On this occasion, it brings together more than 80 publishers, authors, creators, and booksellers from over 20 countries.
In Barcelona, where it was founded in 2009 as a fair specializing in artist’s publications, photobooks, contemporary thought, and self-publishing, it is currently hosted by MACBA. It also has a third venue, ARCOlisboa, and this year it will be present at FIL, the Guadalajara International Book Fair (Mexico).
ArtsLibris is a space for meeting and exchange between editorial and artistic communities, showcasing the value and potential of printed material that includes writing, photography, drawing, engraving, or other marks, as a creative medium in itself. Over its fifteen-year trajectory, it has continuously renewed synergies and challenges. This has established it as the only Catalan and Spanish fair, of international scope, dedicated to this editorial field within the Mediterranean and Ibero-American context.
Dialogue, experimentation, and innovation are the main hallmarks of the ArtsLibris fair, a project that holds a special place at ARCOmadrid, as it also celebrates these publications as an artistic medium through seminars, discussion forums, performances, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
The book is a democratic and empathetic medium for accessing contemporary art. Through its collaboration with ARCO, the project has become a way to bring art closer to the general public — especially younger generations — promoting collecting through a plural and rigorous publishing community, and creating new meeting points between art and society through publications-as-artifacts that reflect artistic practices.
These networks of dialogue have united numerous voices and renowned critics, artists, collectors, and specialists who advocate for the diversity of languages and continually renew perspectives on the creative and commercial processes of the publishing sector. Since its beginnings, it has brought together more than 350 publishers, reflecting the future potential of publications in these formats.
