This piece by Carlos Bunga is made up of two elements, a book and a frame-container. The book has 576 pages with 12 die cut geometric shapes. Interspersed between the pages we find 9 sheets of col- ours – the author’s palette – which intervenes with the cut-out geometries to deliver colour to the void of each form. These pages are totally interchangeable, which makes it possible for the work to present itself in multiple forms.
Carlos Bunga (Porto, 1976) Carlos Bunga (Porto, 1976) is a Portuguese artist, based in the Maresme, where he lives and has his studio, who has stood out for his surprising and im- pacting ephemeral installations in singular spaces. And at the same time for his revitalising work, in which he proposes a radical revision of painting, sculpture and drawing, with a very particular vision, nomadic, critical, subtle and lyrical. Work he has presented in some of the most prestigious contemporary art museums across the world.
His drawn, object-based and painterly work is character- ised by its abstract and yet concrete treatment. Objects, shapes and spaces acquire a new plastic, visual, material, sensual and at the same time conceptual dimension, when treated with the materials and colours with which he trans- forms them in a very personal and always suggestive manner.
